I'm almost 100% certain Joel will be one of the Australian catchers for the World Baseball Classic. He is scheduled to travel to Mexico City after Spring Training to join the team. It will be interesting how he goes V some MLB quality players.
I'd say he starts in A+ for sure this year.

Yeah, Clearwater is a good bet. I believe they start spring training for a couple of weeks , then the tournament kicks off, and when it is over they return to camp to be assigned to their minor league teams. I hope Naughton makes the Australian team for the experience.

So what was the final verdict for Naughton and Naylor in winter ball (I guess it's not winter for you.)

I thought I heard Greg Legg say on an interview on the Blue Claws website about Naughton being injured a couple weeks back, anybody know about that?

Joel is fine, he has been playing in Australia for his local club and State team in the National Titles. At time of this post, I believe he is already on his way to Spring Training with the Phillies, travelling with Drew Naylor and both getting prepared in Clearwater early.
He is on the Aussie 45 man WBC roster but looks like being #1 or #2 catcher for the final roster in Mexico City after spring training.
Funny Story: 2 of the Juniors from his local Aussie team ( 1 my son) favourite player is Jimmy Rollins. They wanted to know if Joel could get his autograph for them on a Uniform at spring training !!! Imagine Joel turning up at Phillies ST and asking for another players autograph... LOL way to impress the coaches ;D ;D ;D

So what was the final verdict for Naughton and Naylor in winter ball (I guess it's not winter for you.) Neither had a real flash series in the National Aussie titles and had limited time for their local Clubs. More like a break here to get ready for next Phillies Minors season. Funny though watching Joel hose a few local boys on the bases. One play he could have dropped the ball, had a cup of coffee and still hose a runner at 2B by 4 feet!!! Small fields and crowds here , I always enjoy sitting right behind Home Plate when Joel is playing. My son is a wanna be catcher and it's great for the kids watching Joel Catch. BTW, Alan Schoenberger is SS for his Local team also. I guess he might be at Williamsport this year ? Alan has been playing extremely well over summer here and looks a lot stronger, still very young yet but I think he will tear up SS A Ball this year.
