Pulled this quote from marfis over on one of the Reading threads, and I thought it might merit some discussion over here... Heitor Correa was re-instated, according to the Baseball America transactions lists on the 3rd of something (November or December, not sure right now) and it said re-instated from the inactive list. www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/?p=1778Now, granted, we have absolutely no idea what his reinstatement means -- it would have been a bit more reassuring to see his name pop up in one of the winter leagues -- but it at least gives us a sliver of hope that he'll be back. If he does return, we're getting back a pitcher who put up this GCL line at age 17... 65.0 IP -- 6.78 K/9 -- 2.77 BB/9 -- 0.55 HR/9 -- 1.20 WHIP -- 3.83 FIPPhuture Phillies wrote in his Top 30 prospect list ( phuturephillies.com/2007/11/19/my-top-30-prospects/) that Correa possesses a low-90s fastball, a slow-breaking curveball, and likely a change-up with some real promise. I'm unable to find any batted ball data, but given his size and the fact that he's still filling out his frame, it's reasonable to believe he won't be an extreme flyball-type pitcher. In short, if we're lucky enough to have Correa back next summer (he'd likely start at Williamsport, I think), it gives us another Top 20 prospect. And obviously the more arms you have, the better.

Interestingly enough, I did a google search on Heitor and found that he pitched this Fall for Brazil in the America's Cup. Check it out. www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Heitor_CorreaLooks like he had some control problems, but pitched fairly decent getting Brazil's only two wins. Anyone know anything about this tourney, competition level and such?

A bit of good news on the Correa front: John Manuel says he's "on the depth chart," for whatever that's worth. Warren from Texas asks: Any word on what happened to Heitor Correa this year? Where does he rank, if at all, in the Top 30? Where does he now stand as a propsect? Thanks for the chat!
John Manuel: He was sent back to Brazil as a disciplinary measure this year; I never got any information that was authoritative enough to print or put online this year as to why, but a club official did confirm that he was disciplined by being sent home for the year from spring training. He's on the depth chart and he pitched for a Brazilian national team in a tournament this year, but he's got to make up for a lost year. Still a guy, but hard to know what kind of guy he is. www.baseballamerica.com/online/prospects/rankings/organization-top-10-prospects/2009/267401.htmlI think I'll find a place to add him in on my Top 30 somewhere.

This is very good news. I forgot how young Correa is. You can never have too many pitching prospects...especially guys that are referred to as a "younger Carlos Carrasco".
I'd love to know what his "offense" was...
