Where can you find players on 40-man rosters that have options left and those who do not? It was interesting to note when Myers and Eaton were sent down they had options to get their act together. This would be interesting to follow all teams and players with or without options for minor league ball from MLB.

When a player first appears on a 40 man roster he has 3 option years in which he can be sent to the minors without going through waivers. The old rule used to be that a players remaining in the minors became eligible for the rule 5 draft after 3 years, but lately it was changed to 4 or 5 . If a 40 man roster player ac crues sufficient MLB service time during his 3 option years he then becomes eligible for salary arbitration. After the 3 option years and 3 arbitration eligible years are completed with the requisite service time the 40 man roster player can become an Unrestricted Free Agent, the minor league player can become a 6 year minor league free agent. See, it all fits together. As to the players in question, Myers and Eaton, I believe they may have had options due to making the majors fairly early in their professional career. They may also had the option to decline assignment to the minors due to sufficient MLB service time.
