Changing the lineup to include D'Arnaud:
Castro CF Garcia 2B Collier RF Hamilton 1B Susdorf LF D'Arnaud C Mattair 3B Galvis SS
Not bad. This is 6 younger guys with decent to exceptional ceiling and 2 older guys who might be role players or AAAA (Hamilton and Susdorf).
Might be some value in keeping this physically talented group together for 2-3 years. Let them establish some chemistry.

Question: When guys come out of GCL, what are the deciding factors for assigning them to Williamsport vs. Lakewood? Williamsport has more crafty, better-trained college players. Lakewood might have younger players, many with more phyisical talent and upside. A guy like Collier--let's say he shows great insincts in pitch recognition, pitcher strategy, etc. Do you send him to Williamsport? If a guy is not physically developed above average and might lack stamina, do you keep him in EST and then start playing him judiciously at Williamsport. D'Arby Myers went to Williamsport, set the league on fire for two weeks and then went into a death spiral. Did the smarter pitchers simply figure him out after two weeks of fastballs?
Any insights appreciated.

Any insights appreciated. I think the biggest difference between the two is that Lakewood is full season and that the Williamsport doesn't start until the end of June (after the draft). I think that is one of the largest factors in deciding where a particular prospect will go.

There are a number of considerations. For pitchers, you might want to keep the guy in Florida and just have him work on fundamentals instead of actually pitching in a game. You might do this if you're trying to work on mechanical adjustments and you don't want the pitcher pitching in high leverage game situations while trying to work on his arm slot/delivery. For hitters, its the same thing. If you have major mechanical flaws, the org might think its best to just have the player work on fundamentals with instructors than face game situations and possibly struggle/have it affect them mentally.
